13 Moons: Teaching the Wampanoag Experience
Educator Darius Coombs from the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe will teach students traditional Wampanoag culture through interactive experiences at the CAM Green where Wampanoag partners recently installed a wetu, a traditional home.

Darius Coombs is a proud father of 4 girls and has been married to his loving wife Toodie for close to 20 years. He is also a Mashpee Wampanoag tribal citizen and is the Cultural Outreach Coordinator for the Mashpee Wampanoag Education Department. Darius is the former Director of the Wampanoag Indigenous Program at Plimoth/ Patuxet Museums for over 30 years. Over his career Darius has worked with Smithsonian, History Channel, National Geographic, and Scholastic to name a few.His teaching of Wampanoag and other Indigenous cultures in the history of the northeast is recognized throughout the country. He has presented at conferences, colleges, historical societies, museums, indigenous institutes, and all grades and levels of learning in North America. Darius is also the recipient of the 2016 NEMA ( New England Museum Association) Award for Excellence and the 2021 Bay State Legacy ward.
Above the Fold: The Photographers of "The Gloucester Daily Times," 1973 - 2005
This fall, students are invited to explore stories of Cape Ann as seen through the lens of photojournalists in a guided visit featuring Above the Fold, a special exhibit showcasing photography from The Gloucester Daily Times. Students learn about the process and role of photojournalism to document a community and create a historical narrative of a place.
Signature Programs at Grades 2 and 8
Last year was a great success, which culminated in two installations of work by students across Cape Ann. This year CAM would like to invite art teachers in these two grades to participate again in this positive and long lasting experience.
