Cape Ann COSMOS: The Art of Mary Blood Mellen

Although often linked to her mentor Fitz Henry Lane, Mary Blood Mellen (1819-1886) was an accomplished artist who deserves her place in the history of art on Cape Ann. To better appreciate Mellen's artistic skills, the Cape Ann Museum has staged a special exhibition of her work, on view in the center of the Lane Gallery.
Mary Blood Mellen, after moving to Gloucester with her husband, Rev. Charles W. Mellen, became Lane's student and collaborator, with Lane even giving her access to his preliminary drawings.
