Sunflowers on Rocky Neck

Sloan had been particularly impressed with Vincent Van Gogh's work at the Armory Show and his work during his first two summers in Gloucester reflects this influence. The subject matter and lively, calligraphic brush strokes in Sunflowers, Rocky Neck could almost be an homage to Van Gogh.
