Zygmund Jankowski
1925 - 2009
Zygmund Jankowski was born and raised in Indiana and spent much of his life in the Midwest. Following service in the Navy "Zyg"—as he was known by his friends—enrolled in the California College of Arts and Crafts and found work in the commercial end of art and in teaching.
In 1964, Jankowski took summer studio space on Rocky Neck in East Gloucester and by the 1970s had settled in the area on a year-round basis. His years here on Cape Ann were devoted to painting and teaching and by the time of his death in 2009, Jankowski had taught and inspired a whole new generation of Cape Ann artists.
