Steve Budington

born 1978 -

Steven Budington was the 2003 winner of the Yale University School of Painting Gloucester Prize, established in 1994 by Gloucester businessman and artist Milt Lauenstein. Each winner receives a two-week Gloucester residency and a cash award.

The idea for the residency originated with artist Bernard Chaet, former head of Yale's painting department and a long-time summer resident of Rockport. His aim was to provide students with a focused time and space for artistic growth and development. Chaet's vision caught the imagination of Lauenstein, whom he met while teaching at the Vermont Studio School. The result was the Gloucester Landscape Painting Prize.
