Gordon Goetemann

1933 - 2016

Gordon Goetemann first came to Cape Ann in 1954 to study with Umberto Romano (1906-1982).  Goetemann’s early work, like Romanos, fell into the tradition of American Romantic-Realism; Goetemann broke from his mentor, however, choosing to concentrate on landscape rather than portraiture.

Today, after a noted career teaching, Goetemann and his wife Judy maintain art studios on Rocky Neck in East Gloucester.  In 2005, the couple established the Goetemann Residency allowing emerging artists to spend time living and working on Rocky Neck.
