Frederick J. Mulhaupt
1871 - 1938
Affectionately known as "Dean of the Cape Ann School," Frederick Mulhaupt was a native of Missouri and first came to Cape Ann in 1907. In 1922 he became a year round resident. Ten years later he purchased a studio on Rocky Neck.
During the Depression, Mulhaupt was one of several local artists to participate in WPA art projects and examples of murals he painted during this time still hang in Gloucester City Hall and the former High School on Dale Avenue.
